Welcome to my site. Many call me the “Jade Diver” but there are a few that have dedicated a passion for diving for jade in Big Sur. This is one of only known places to retrieve jade from the ocean. There are even fewer of us who make our own jewelry from the jade we find in Big Sur.

One thing different about me, I exclusively dive and collect my jade by breath-hold called “Freediving”. This is the use of a wetsuit, weight belt, mask and snorkel. Not tanks for oxygen. On larger stones that cannot be taken to the surface, there are few options without scuba tanks. Larger stones are usually “lifted” with an air bag that is inflated by air from the divers scuba tank. I have no tanks. So, I do repetitive dives and fill the lift bag with air from my lungs and return to the surface without any air in my lungs. Enough of these trips to the bottom, I can also lift a stone but it’s a lot of work. I have also moved a stone a little by little towards shore until I have it in the shallows to retrieve it. There are a few scuba divers who have taken off their fins and walked on the bottom carrying a stone towards shore. Fun to watch underwater.
